about

This is the first of two instrumental tracks, something I haven't done before on a record. At the time I made both this and In Search of Silence, I initially was going to put lyrics in them like any other, but upon further listens I felt these conveyed a message all their own in their instrumental state.

As such, Brumous comes across to me as a projection of internal struggles woven throughout the recovery process. I've had small lapses and bouts of depression throughout my time of healing, and it was worth documenting with a song like this. To me, the lack of vocals has come to give symbolism to my tendency to not bring it up to anyone when I'm going through these low points. The repetition of the end riff into a fadeout represents the constant struggle of these bouts, but that they will ultimately fade with time. A bit on the nose perhaps, but subtlety isn't a recurring theme on this record.
